Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Step One: Check the scene to make sure the area is safe to perform CPR.
Step Two: Check the victim to make sure they are unconcious. To do this, tap on their shoulder and shout "Hey, hey, are you okay?"
Step Three: If they do not answer, immediately assign someone to call 911 and get an AED. In the case that no one else is around, you must call 911 and get an AED yourself, even if it means leaving the victim to do so.
Step Four: Open up the airway by tilting the victim's chin upward and head back.
Step Five: Look, Listen, and Feel- Look at this victim's chest to see if there is air moving in and out; Place your ear next to the victim's mouth to listen for breath; See if you can feel a breath on your cheek.
Step Six: Plug the victim's nose and give them two rescue breaths, each lasting about a second.
Step Seven: Check the victim for a pulse. This should last about five to ten seconds.
Step Eight: Perform thirty chest compression on the center of the victim's chest. Proper form would be one hand flat with the fingers of the other hand wrappend between the figers of the bottom hand. Push thirty times to the beat of "Staying Alive" by The BeeGees. It is good practice to perform these compressions with as much force as possible.
Step Nine: Plug the victim's nose, tilt their chin upward and their head backward, and perform two more rescue breaths.
Step Ten: Immediately start another round of thirty chest compressions. There is no need to check the pulse again.
*Repeat the two rescue breaths-thirty chest compressions cycle five times before taking a break. Performing CPR is physically draining, and if you need to stop it is okay. Because you remembered to call 911, they should be there shortly to take over.*
